About me

I am a philosopher in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Haifa in Israel. I hold a B.Sc. in psychology from the University of Toronto (1985) and a Ph.D. in philosophy from M.I.T. (1990). Most of my published work has been in the philosophy of mind, with an emphasis on consciousness, but over the past several years my focus has been on long-term projects in social epistemology and the philosophy of religion.
I grew up in Toronto and have been living in Israel since 1991. After high school I spent three years as a working musician, followed by a year of study at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. The bridge for me between music and academia was a brief but significant religious period, which sparked a decades-long fascination with consciousness and the mind, leading eventually to my work in epistemology and the philosophy of religion.
Over the years, my love of music has remained, and along the way I’ve developed interests in photography, amateur astronomy, and writing for broader audiences. I’ll be sharing some of that here as well.
